The health suite is staffed Monday–Thursday 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. by nurses Donna Friedman, R.N., M.A.S., and Monica Stewart, R.N. They are trained to manage chronic student health concerns such as diabetes, asthma, and allergies. They maintain immunization records and can administer medication with parental permission and physician approval. They also train staff in the use of an Epipen, enabling teachers to provide immediate emergency care in the event of a life-threatening allergic reaction.
We’re equipped to handle all food allergies, including allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, milk and dairy products, eggs, and gluten. Because some students have severe allergies to nuts, we can make a classroom’s kitchen nut-free upon a parent’s request. We also ask parents to take extra care when helping kids pack safe foods. The nurses have compiled a helpful list of nut allergy dos and dont’s.
The Goldsmith Entrance is the only entrance to the Early Childhood Center. Only staff members have the authority to buzz in visitors. All other entrances and exits are locked from the inside. The school building is fitted with a sprinkler system. Fire exit routes make evacuation easy and safe for students of all ages.
